an engine won't have power with no oil pressure. any possibility your points slammed shut in the new distributor? I bought an NOS dist for my 62 flatbed Poly 318 truck and it droppedin and ran great but after a long trip it would not restart hot . turned out the screw that hold the points in was so over torqued it was distorting the fixed portion enough to cause them to stick open when under hood temps ros with engine off. that one took a while to figure out!
