I need to move some heavy machinery around and needed a good pry bar to help. I figured a scaling bar like they use in the mines for prying loose rocks out of the ceiling would be just the ticket. They have a forged steel tip, flattened and bent at a good angle and a heavy-wall aluminum handle so they don't weigh too much. So, I go four blocks to NW Mine Supply and start wandering around in the warehouse looking for scaling bars. I find lots of muck sticks, Finn hoes, doublejacks and other "pioneer tools" but no scaling bars. I go up to the office and ask if they have any. He says no, they usually just have them made to order, 50 at a time. I'm prepared to wait until they get their next big order, but before I can say anything, he says "Terry can make you one by this afternoon, is that okay?" Terry's the blacksmith, and of course it's okay. I walk back into the warehouse to look for some Vic gaskets and I hear someone say, "Terry, can you make up a 6 foot scaling bar?" I come back in an hour and Terry's working on a stack of 10' bars and has my 6' one sitting off to the side.

So, if you want a good serious pry bar, buy one from NW Mine Supply, and you can be sure it was made in the USA.
