I live 12 miles east of Yellowstone Park, and yes, they can get that big. I measured a 4 1/2" wolf track a 1/4 mile from my house last summer.
About 3 miles from here they have cleaned out a small deer herd, and YES, they do kill for sport and only eat about 1/4 of what they kill.
They have killed domestic dogs in the area.
No interactions with humans as of yet.
I am not anti-wolf, but they need to stay on federal property, or get shot.
