Hi Steve,
I had pulled a rear axle from a complete rear axle, and didnt want to leave it open, so I thought to bolt on a frive flange. I put it on, and them discovered it wouldnt seat in where it should, but closed it up enough for what I was looking for. I didnt really think much about it, or I would have pulled that outer seal and then it would have seated in. For a trailer, with no diff, and thus no gear oil, I dont see any need for the outer seal anyway.
