Old flathead engines

I wen to the junk yard today and saw a 1950s dodge coronet with a flathead six in it and the head looked different than the one on my 47 dodge truck's The spark plugs were diagnoly instead of vertically. I tried to remove the distributor and it would not come out,was what seemed jammed.Is this the same dodge motor?
Also the was another old 1950s car there,a Packard with a "massive" in line 8 cylinder flathead engine. What torque that must have.Parts are probably obsolete.Someone had taken the distributor,carb,the usual stuff.
