I'm with Dan on the spring. Maybe even try stretching it out by hand to make it stronger. Springs get weak over the years and they're rarely included in carb kits. As I recall, there's nothing magically calibrated about that particular spring. There's a direct linkage to the throttle lever. It's not one of those vacuum-actuated kind. The amount of fuel that gets injected is metered by which hole in the lever you put the connecting link through, not by the strength of the spring.

Sometimes it's a band-aid, but a stronger spring is often the easiest way to solve all kinds of problems with sticky linkages on old trucks -- clutch, brake, and accelerator mechanism. I'd rather have whatever it is be harder to push than have it not return when it should.
