My problem was that the Dodge parts diagram showed what appeared to be the rubber doughnut at the other end of the spring. When I placed it there, the system would build pressure and lock up the brakes.
I imagine that what looked like the rubber donut in the Mopar book was a lot thinner than the one that is currently in the kit.
My MC works fine now without the rubber doughnut, but then again it was a new MC and apparently the check valve seals against the bore in the front very well.
