After refilling the newly done transfer case on the M37 I started noticing a small drip on the floor. I traced it to the bottom bolt on one of the rear bearing carriers. Knowing that removing the bolt to reseal it would be akin to pulling the drain plug, I was reluctant to do this. My friend Neil told me to hook my vacuum to the top of the case and then pull the bolt, nothing would come out. I pulled the vent fitting, and screwed in a pipe nipple. then screwed a pipe bushing onto that and a few wraps of tape brought the OD up to the ID of the vac hose. Turned on the vac, pulled the bolt, and not a drop of oil came out. I dried out the threads as well as possible, gunked up the bolt threads and put it back in. Presto!
Neil says it will also work to install a block heater without draining out the coolant.
I was impressed.
Tim
