This is my 1964 Townie that I bought a few years ago in Northern California. It has very low mileage and ran so-so when I bought it. Since then I have gone through the entire drive train and made sure that everything works the way it was designed to. The radiator has been rebuilt and re-soldered; I installed a brand new water pump along with all rubber connectors. Installed a new thermostat, rebuilt the carb, and serviced the oil bath air filter, put in new points, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor. I installed new rubber seals under the spark plug cups (they were original & leaked). The motor had a miss in it and I found 2 cylinders did not have proper compression. The problem was the cylinder head which I had professionally gone through for over $525.00. The rough running disappeared.

The hydraulic clutch and 4 speed transmission worked properly, I simply changed the hydraulic fluid. The left rear hub was broken and I found a few guys on the internet who have a lot of used parts for Townie's, the hub was replaced. I found 4 new drums as well and installed them. The brake shoes, wheel cylinders and all brake lines (including the stainless ones in the engine compartment) have been replaced. I had the original wheels sandblasted and powder coated gloss white with dark green pinstripes before installing brand new tires. All 4 hubcaps are original and I had the red pinstripes redone to match original. All dash lights have been replaced and work properly. The rheostat for the dash lights is new and works to dim the lights. The glass is all there and the 2 front window regulators work properly as do the wing windows.

The body is original and has been on the west coast its entire life. NO SALT! Minimal rust in a couple of small areas on the body (see pics), nothing on the frame. This is an easy fix, especially as most Townies get rust at the roof line or above the rear fenders but this unit is clean and has none of that. The 3 original seats are installed as when they left the factory, the back 2 rows have the original factory upholstery on them. The dash has never been cut. The truck can be driven, I forgot to mention that I just purchased and installed a brand new drag link and pulled the steering shaft out, cleaned it and greased it before re-installation. The truck steers like it should. There is no power assist, but as soon as you are rolling, it's no problem. The truck tracks down the road straight. It has all the gauges and they work and there are all new lamps behind every gauge. The dimmer works as well with the new light rheostat I installed. The spare wheel was painted to match the other 4 rims, even the pin striping. The spare tire is fine for a spare, it will get you home. No radio was ever in this truck. The entire dash is unmolested with a nice coat for gloss forest green paint on it from the factory. The heater works properly and it has a front cowl vent that really lets the air in when the day is hot. The wipers work properly and I installed brand new rubber only 4 weeks ago.

Not very many 2wd, slant 6, 4-speed Townies were manufactured.
This is an excellent candidate for a restoration.
