Thanks for the information Doc. Lubriplate SPO seems widely available.

I did some searching on the internet. Evidently, the problem is with the sulfur that is added to some lubes to increase high pressure performance, especially in GL-5 lubes.

The sulfur in the lube can break down and create acids which erode yellow metals (bronze, brass and other copper containing alloys).

Here is a link to a very interesting article which explains the problem and lists some oils that can be used in machinery containing yellow metal.
