Precision ground drill rod is sold in 3' pieces. It works as a straight edge to check head warpage. Use a feeler gauge between rod and head.

These long skinny heads have a pretty high allowance for warp- .012? anybody get a spec? Hence the thick fluffy head gasket.

Plus, on head removal, it is just as important to detorque a head as it was to torque it on installation. Use a torque wrench to break each bolt loose, then reverse direction to re-torque to a lesser value. Do three steps, same as torqueing.

Plus, always run a tap through the threads in the block to clean them out before install. Dirt and grit prevent a smoooth torque.

Good luck, lunch time here.
