Sorry, I missed your question.
There are various categories of information that Firefox saves. Caches and cookies are just part of it. There are also options for remembering saved passwords and remembering stuff you typed into forms. Take a close look at "Tools | Clear recent history | details", or "Tools | Options | Privacy" and "Tools | Options | Security" and you will find boxes to check that tell it what to save or not, and what to clear when you ask it to clear your history.

It sounds like you want it to clear your cookies, but not clear your cache or your saved passwords. Use "Tools | Options | Security" to tell it to remember your saved passwords. If you do, you must still enter a master password that you need to type in once when you first start Firefox. This is to prevent your girlfriend from logging into nakedrussiangoatgirls.com under your name. When you clear the history, make sure you uncheck "Active logins".

For telling firefox to save other data you type into forms, other than passwords, set that up under "Tools | Options | Privacy | Remember search and form history". Then, if you use the "Clear recent history" command, you'll also need to uncheck "Form and search history" before clearing everything else.
