From the looks, they have a pretty shallow 'funnel'. Probably not much to do with it. Or probably use glass bead media? I saw it at Harbor Freight the other day, in about 80 grit. $20/20lbs. But they supposed to last lots longer than sand. I thought that 80 was too fine for my scaly parts.
Piles of sand or gravel have what is called an 'angle of repose'. The angle that the sand piles up, is the angle the sand will flow down. Glass beads have just got to roll down lower slopes...
