I understand that usual for pluggers, stopers and such is 7/8. If you are buying used, have them explain the sizing differences on new, so you can judge the amount of usable life left. My understanding is that they size progressively smaller as they get longer, usually in 2' increments. Just get the best ones in shorter ans when they wear and are resharpened, they get narrower. A good comparison is how much material is left below the air passge hole and the carbide insert. The resharpening process removes material reducing this distance. Keep in mind that what I'm offering is what I have found and understand to be correct. A good supplier will help you get what you need.
A Hilti is just a another brand name for SDS type tool. Any of them will work for drilling splitting holes as usually deep isn't required. Explosives are your best bet once it becomes more than a few feet being removed. To save Joe's bandwidth, you can email me if you have any questions or want an opinion.
