Maybe metal prevents paint from sticking?

I know that oil based paints use metallic driers. They used to use lead, now bismuth. The driers act to catalyze the oxygenation/cross linking process.

So. maybe the iron does something to the oils, that prevents sticking, and what primers do is keep the metal separate from the oils in the paint?

Epoxy and lacquer based primers are not reactive with metals, so they are allowed to stick?

Dave, want to fly that by your paint chemist buddy?
