Thanks again. We happen to have a big mine supply place right here in town so I will check and see what size steel is standard around here. I don't know if the used steels still have any life left in them or not. People use them for re-bar, fence posts, and hand rails.

I imagine the larger size is what they use in the mines these days. They usually drill 10' rounds. They always use water in them, but probably they use enough water that it really flushes everything out. Underground you really want to settle all the dust. It's better to get splattered with mud all day than get "miner's con" from the rock dust. The first pneumatic drills they used were nicknamed "buzzys" or "window-makers", the last because of how quickly the rock dust ruined the men's lungs. Obviously you wouldn't use a gas-powered drill underground anyway due to the exhaust fumes, so running it dry and blowing it with air is probably safe.

Is the Hilti basically an electric SDS-MAX roto-hammer like my Bosch? If so, that's what I've been using, but it takes at least half an hour to drill a 30" hole. I tell myself it's easier than single-jacking, but I'd still like to upgrade.
