We have restored many a power wagon drum system; both with and without boosters. A boosted drum system is very good and can be done using a dual circuit fluid system for added safety and security just as a disc system can. The killer is the drums, new ones are next to impossible to find, and likely will have become warped in storage if you do; turning them is generally next to useless; and the myth about getting good ones from the M101 military trailers because they are only used for parking is simply a crock. If your truck happens to have 4 good drums, great; go for a rebuild and add boosters and a dual circuit M/C. That will work great until you need drums, then you have a issue at hand.

With that said; the disc system is the better option for 2 simple reasons. #1 it does away with the most always certain bad drum issue once and for all. #2 once the disc system is in place, all the normal wear components are over the counter parts at your local auto supply store. Sure it cost more for the initial installation, but you will keep on loving the decision you made for many years to come if you plan on keeping and enjoying your Dodge Power Wagon or M37. It is the only long range brake solution that is 100%, plain and simple.
