Last summer I drilled a lot of holes in rock using my electric bosch roto-hammer, but it took about 40 minutes to drill each 1-1/4" hole 30" deep. I don't have a sinking hammer or a big portable air compressor to run it, but I've been thinking about getting a gas-powered rock drill like a Pionjar or Atlas Copco "cobra" if I can find a used one reasonable and it will take normal drill steels like I can get around here. Anybody have any experience with any of them?

The Pionjar claims to drill a 3' hole in granite in 3-1/2 minutes. My rock is mostly a lot softer than granite so it ought to zip right through it like nothing. I do have that gas-powered Barco jackhammer that someone gave me, but it's a museum piece and I doubt it even works, plus all I have for it is an asphalt-cutting blade.
