All my old iron has 4 wheel hydroboost disk brakes. Everything is positive. With that said, from experience on my Carryall, 4 wheel disks without a booster, either vacuum or hydroboost will not give good performance.
Further, 4 wheel disks require a 1 & 5/16" bore master cylinder to give good brakes and have plenty of pedal reserve. You could fab mounts to mount the master cylinder in the OEM location. However, if you ever contemplate a engine conversion, either shall er say a 318/360 or Cummins diesel, the helitool suspended pedals must or should be used. It would be difficult to mount a current production vacuum booster or Hydroboost down in the frame rail.

The suspended pedals allow the master cylinder and booster to be up on the firewall like current equipment. Its easier to service and up out of the road slop.

If your current drum system is really shot and needs total replacement, the cost of disk on all 4 is quite equal.

Click the link below and scroll down to my Hydroboost album to see how the suspended pedals/firewall mounted hydroboost and Master Cylinder fall in place.

Honestly, once you drive our old iron with power boosted 4 wheel disks, you will never look back.

Paul
