If you are talking about putting 4.88 ring and pinion in, the speed increase is not really that much if the truck is left stock. 55 mph would be about it, if you had 36" tires. You would still be quite slow climbing hills as the 230 or 251 engine does not have enough power. With a V8 (which I have in one of my trucks) you can go much faster 70+ mph. But the engine will be turning 3,000 RPM at 60mph with a 1 to 1 final drive ratio. An overdrive would help that. If you get up to speeds like that you need to put disk brakes up front and a dual master brake system. You can also go with a Cummins 4 cylinder diesel instead of a V8 and do quite well but an overdrive is manditory.
