Interesting Paul. The springs on my currrent project were made by one of the largest makers of lift springs and they have teflon slides on the ends of the springs. They have elongated holes that keep the pads in place and have corresponding bumps on the bottom of the pads. The padt are only about 2 1/2 inches.
No teflon along the length, just the ends. On the other side of the coin it would seem that rust would make the spring not work according to design. I guess we are over thinking this huh? ;)
