I own a 1961 TW. It used to have a 360, 4speed, and stock brakes. I towed a 16 foot tandem axle trailer without trailer brakes regularly. Mainly wood for the woodstove and rock for landscaping. The secret was going slow and steady. I now have a 4bt and 5 speed with 4 wheel hydroboost discs. Same trailer, but stops much better with the discs. Our 26' Airstream has brakes, and I plan on a 7 pin wiring harness on the TW so I can take advantage of the trailer brakes. My 16' tandem is going to get brakes soon as well. Your vehicle should do fine, but would recommend the brake control upgrades others are suggesting
