You should get an accurate measure of the oil pressure when it is warmed up. Putting thinner oil in (assuming you have the correct viscosity oil in the first place) may not be the best thing to do.

Get an external oil pressure gauge and watch what happens as the engine warms up.

Your engine may be worn out. Thicker oil may actually be the way to go until you can do the proper repairs.

It might help us to know if the problem is associated with cold weather starts or happens under all conditions.
