I'm getting real tired of all these outfits that throw up a "pro-gun" website, post a bunch of overblown hype on it about how the government is about to take your guns away, and then ask you for donations. Most of the time the "petition" is just a way for them to get your contact info so they can start pestering you for donations. The environmental outfits do the same thing to the greenies, so it's not just that they think gun owners are dumber than greenies. I wouldn't be surprised if the same outfits are being both sites. The tone is pretty much the same whether it's, "They're going to take your guns" or "They're going to kill all the wolves" (unless you send us money). The NRA is almost as bad these days in terms of the inflammatory tone of their site and their fund-raising letters, but at least they do actually do something good with the money.

One of my favorite pro-gun groups is Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. In Washington, the Second Amendment Foundation is pretty good too. Not a lot of hype, but they know how to work the political system to actually get things done. My red flag with that "nationalgunrights.org" thing is that they try to get you all worked up about the issue, but they don't tell you who to write to in government to do anything about it. All they tell you to do is sign their "petition" and send them money. If they were serious about the issue, they'd tell you which senators or representatives are in charge of whatever committee is responsible for changing the law.
