on the brake topic below. I did some online research and it appears asbestos is may still used in brakes. But there is some who make statements like I did about he it being banned for 20 plus years. I had assumed it was gone because i was working in the brake industry and the parts reps from our brake suppliers told us that. But, then the kevlar stuff had so many problems maybe they went back to asbestos? I could not find any law that said it was banned in automotive parts. either way I have always been cautious when arcing shoes and only do it outside or have it done at the reliners. the reliners have a big vacuum system onthe machine. and another thing about hte fibers. when examined under a microscope they look like black baby powder or talc does. talc even contains some asbestos. Asbestos is not a toxic substances but rather a substance that once it goes in it doesn't like to come out so can cause problems later on. Talc and asbestos look like a fish hook under a microscope. I know a number of old brake mechanics in there late 70s. no problems for them yet. ;/)
