The electric things don't get quite so hot, but spread the heat wider. They do get hot enough to start fires though. So maintain care.
One friend kept an old white gas blow torch just for this. Lots of heat, pump gas.
My current project has only one coat since the factory. I'm loving it. But then, there is the burned,rusty carryall part...
