Put a vacuum gauge on it. They can be bought at any auto parts store. Run the engine in the driveway and watch the gauge as you take the RPMs up. Those gauges work wonders. You did not indicate that it only happens when the engine is under load. If you vacuum wipers, put the cover off the one over the drivers window and disconnect its hose. Now hook the vacuum gauge to that hose. Then take it for a spin around the block. Watch the gauge as you drive and especially just as the engine starts having problems.
