As a former small engine repair shop owner, I have seen lots of bad Hondas. I would not recommend any Honda over about 10HP. The bigger ones can be nothing but trouble, mostly emectrical problems, and, the routine service and repair parts for the bigger Hondas can get expensive real fast.
Having said that, the smaller Hondas are great. I think know the compressors you are talking about. They are typically sold at a reasonable price at places like Tractor Supply, and the big box home supply stores.
The Honda is a better engine for that application than the Kohler. With Kohler, the current models of their smaller HP engines are not as reliable as the Honda.
If you get on up to 20HP an up, then Kohler is the way to go.
