I have been told if you run tubeless tires (radial tires) on a split ring rim that the ring will eventually cut into the sidewall and ruin the tire or cause it to blow out. The "landings" for lack of a better term, on the sidewall of the tube type tires are what creates the bead once the split ring is installed and the tire is inflated. Radial tires do not have this landing...
