Too simple?? Not giving you a bad time at all. You are just use to working with different technology. Check the basics:
1) Gas getting to carb? lots of crud in tank and fuel lines is common. Check the carb for obstructions and gum.
2) Spark? Do you have a good spark at the plugs. Check the plugs, wires and distrib cap and rotor for cracks, arching and moisture. Check the wiring from the battery all the way to the coil. Clean all of the contacts as there maybe significant voltage loss there. Check voltage at the battery then at the coil. They should be really close. I have run a jumper from the battery straight to the coil when I am cranking the engine. Do not leave connected for long. This assures a full 6 volts at the coil.
3) Points and condenser? Check them out and replace if any questions. Also check the wire from the points to the coil. Check it where it passes through the distrib housing. It could be shorted or partly so. That wire is old and the insulation will break down.
4) Check the timing statically making sure it is close.
5) I will assume that there is sufficient compression.

Just make sure all the basics are there and working. You should have some tuning equipment that will help you with spark and electrical.
