Thanks to everyone...I can usually count on lots of response, and I now have some good answers. As I posted above, I didn't run out and buy the 8v battery. It came in the truck. I was just trying to find out whether the charging system was giving the battery 8volts or 6volts. I was also concerned about the bulb life and other electrical stuff. I forgot to ask how in the world does a battery charger know what to do with an 8v battery, since the only two settings are 6 or 12? Having seen everyone's input here, I will be going back to a 6volt battery eventually. Want to buy a good used 8v battery?
