I spend a lot of my time messing around with classic sports cars, especially BMW 2002s. Those cars aren't as old as Power Wagons are, nor have they been used as hard. They're also a lot more common.

Originality is king versus restored. Restoration makes it too easy to hide rust, cheap repairs, etc. and it's rare that I see a restored car that is done well. Usually the work is substandard and downright sloppy, regardless of the cost.

With the trucks, I would think it depends a lot on what the buyer is looking for and what's available in their geographic area. A truck that has been hacked up and messed with versus one that has just been used hard would be worth less.

I agree with what Randy says dollarwise. These are old trucks, and they're wonderful, but their usefulness in today's society compared to modern trucks often makes them a man's toy rather than daily transportation or a good farm tool. Thus, it's often hard to justify high dollar prices unless their condition is exceptional. Plus, many of the people who are interested in these trucks aren't the type to have thousands of dollars to spend freely on a hobby like some vintage car collectors.

My '02 cents, anyways.

Randy, I like that Gerstenslager beast, ugly as it may be. If we can get it low enough to sneak into my garage and it looks like it could be made to move and stop on it's own without too much work, I'll be happy to trade it for my '63 W200. Make a helluva pizza delivery van....
