if you consider flat fender PW's WDX,WM300's to be 'COLLECTORS CARS' as some do today then
the #1 value rule for "COLLECTOR CARS" is
"It is only original ONCE" and those that are original with all the dings & marks of 50+ years (and a history) are probably worth the most to a collector as the theme is now to PRESERVE not RESTORE collectors cars.
Some PW's are beyond "PRESERVATION" and do require major work as they were all "WORK" vehicles by design and used as such.
the "60K" 59 is more of a "HOT ROD" or customized vehicle (go to a goodguys car show and you will see what i mean) and the value depends upon what a buyer will pay if that is what he/she wants and because there might not be anything to compare it with in the custom car world it is a 40k+ vehicle.
Bottom line: if you see something you want then buy it and do what you want with it.
but also buyers change to sellers when they sign the papers
