I had this problem with my 78' and who was it that posted before about the same thing a while back. I did all you said but the carberator but it did not help then i found that the coil wire was sparking across the intake manifold. Replace the wires or run them at night and see if you can find any arks across the metal. My distribriter cap wouldn't latch down tight so once i started to move and more spark went into it and more vibration it would get off time and start rattleing like a mother. I tryed driveing it like five times, starting it up to get around the block back to the house. I gave up and parked it. Then came back with the timing light. Remeber after you replace wires set timing again.
