I am putting a V8 in my '54 M37 and I don't anticipate ever putting the 230 back in. So it's for sale. I runs very good, but, not great. It always starts right up, even after sitting for a few weeks. I checked the compression last summer and it was between 90-120. In Iowa I did a U-boat imitation and got some water in the engine. I changed the oil there on the trail and drove it out. I changed the oil again the next day and several times after getting back home. It still runs well, but, the oil pressure goes down to 10 PSIG at idle and 30 while at speed. The odometer works and shows 22,600 miles. The number on the block is T245-62278. I have never had the head off. I replaced the oil pump and pan after the submersion and everything looked good. Personally, I would rebuild this engine, I am sure many guys would be quite satisfied with how it runs. It does not smoke and runs nice and cool. I am posting this now so that anyone who is interested can come and drive the truck before I pull the engine. I am including all of the accessories, starter, generator, Distributor, etc. It has new points, condenser, rotor, thermostat, hoses, water pump and fan belt. The crown lewel is the NOS carb I put on last summer.I bought it from Adirondack last summer and I see he is selling the for $400 now. Everything works well. The fuel pump worked when I bought the truck, but, I disconnected it and used a 24V pump. I will sell the whole engine for $550, $400 without the carb, you pay the shipping. I can work out a good price for shipping if you can pick it up at a trucking companies terminal or if it is shipped to a business adress where it can be unloaded. I will sell the carb seperately for $225. At most the carb has about 20 hours of 400 miles on it. It solved all of the carb problems I had instantly when I bolted it on! My fuel tank is spotless and I always run a filter before the carb. I will consider trading for an exceptional M37 transmission or a partial trade for a very good PTO. You can call me M-F at 800 347-4718 ext. 266 6:00am-2:30, if I am not in please leave a message and I will get back to you. I am in Illinois just north of Chicago. I plan to pull the engine in a month or so, I can do it sooner if need be.
Regards, Andy Tierney
