Winch Question

I have a 58 B-4 PW. It had bumper and extensions on it but no winch. I went to put a 10,000 lbs braden winch on it and the extensions were about 1 1/2 inches short. What gives, if the extensions are right then why is the winch wrong. It bolts up to the front of the bumper but sits to far to the rear to bolt up to the frame. Can anyone explain this, phenomenum?
