the 318 poly is much more to rebuild.for what youll spend you could do a 360 and get youre auto trans rebuilt. brian is semi right abuot the 318 sharing some similaritys beyween the old hemis but the 318 is missing a row of bolt holes for the hemihead.if the motor size was anyother size it could have been done.sorry i digress.now. you could buy a junk yard motor and trans at a pull it youre self yard for around 200 bucks.if you go to a specilty yard expect to pay more.i dont know if you thought of using a small block chevy but its a hole lot cheaper then the above . i have an old article from power wagon advertiser from a guy whe did youre swap using the la and he points out all the things neede and pit falls he ran into if youre interested send a sase and ill send a copy. email me back ill give you the address
