so the transfer case is already mounted about 24 inches behind the rear of the NP 435D4 transmission, so neither the transfer case nor any drive shaft would have to be changed. The intermediate shaft (from rear of tranny to t/c) would have to be shortened, but that should be easy to do.

The NVG4500 bolt pattern is different than the 435, wider I'm told (don't now know by how much), so the present bellhousing may not (??) be wide enough to drill and tap. The the length of the input shaft is also probably different (about 9-3/8" for the NP435D4 vs. only 7-1/2" for the NVG4500), so I'd have to figure out if the splines from each transmission would overlap in the clutch hub. A pilot bushing could center the shorter input shaft of the NVG4500 but could not drive the splines on the clutch disc, so the distance from the transmission face and position of the splines on the input shaft for each transmission becomes another issue. Spline count may be different (10 spline 1-1/8" dia. for NP435D4, and 10 spline with either 1-1/8" or 1-1/4" dia on NVG4500 depending...) but should be accomodated by the proper clutchhaving an appropriate matching hub. Having the shorter input shaft on the NVG4500 instead of the NP435D4 makes using an adopter plate tougher, not easier, as I assume the splines would be moved further back away from the clutch hub as adopter plate thickness increases, precisely the wrong direction. GRRrrrrrr.

Keep talking to me so I don't jump off the bridge.....
