Re front vs. 4 wheel disks: actually a well adjusted set of rear drums and front disks are balanced pretty perfectly. If one goes with 4 wheel disks you end up needing a proportioning valve which simply "de-rates" the rears to about the efficacy of the stock drum brakes. Even Ray Suiter says front disks are usually enough for most applications.
You may say 55 is enough for now, but when you feel the power available to you your feelings may change...
I think an Advance Adapters Ranger II overdrive (0.73:1) may barely fit between the bellhousing and the NP420, if it can be adapted to the bolt pattern. It's only 7" long and would give the additional benefit of a nice split of 3rd (1.24:1) giving you really a 6 spd. Rpms at 65 would drop to 2730 with 35.2" tires and 2480 with 38.7".
