The np420 gearbox had several variants and was used from 1946 to 1968. The original version on the WDX PW had square cut spur gears and no syncros. The M37 box was also a np420 but with helical cut gears from its inception. The 1957 PW WM300 was the first PW to have the updated np420 with syncro 3,4. The insides of the 1957-1968 np420s are all the same only the cases are different. The WM300 gearbox has the same mount ears as the later 61-71 bellhousings and can be bolted up to a 318/360 housing without adaptor plates. Unfortunatly the later non M37 and WM300 np420s don't have a pto window on the driver side. The box I am refering to for use without a PTO winch is the np420 made from 1961-1968 and the np435 from 1964 on. Eventualy I will upload technical articals to our site that will explaine all of the differences.
