I'm a bit confused here, perhaps you or someone else can straighten me out. From the Helitool website:

"If you have a wench on your truck your best bet for a transmission is the original M37 one using our adapter kit. If you don't have or want a wench then just about anything will work that was intended for the 318/360 engines. NP420掇 and NP435s from 1961-1970s can be used."

This makes it seem like the NP420 is not the original trans? Or is it just stating that later NP420s can be used, thus not requiring the adapter kit? Is the original trans in the M37(say a '53) a NP420?
