Plugs type for a 53

I am looking to change the plugs for my 53 B-3. Besides the Autolite plugs that are $9.00 a pop, what other plugs are appropriate??? What is the proper gap???

The porcelain and electrodes on the old Champions that I took out, sit lower in the plug than the plugs that I am used to seeing.
They are Champion J11. The Porcelian looks flush with the threads.

I don't want to have a piston hit a plug.
