I agree with S. Bear. It depends on what you want the truck for.

I painted my '49 PW with a color that was not on the paint charts for that year (or any year, for that matter). I picked out a medium-dark blue that looks like it would have been from that era. All the older folks I know think it was an original color. My intention is not to sell the vehicle any time soon (in fact I've had it for 10 years), and I don't show it at competitions, so I don't care if it's technically a correct color. I like the color blue, and I picked out one that seems to fit well.

Most average people, and even many enthusiasts will not know the difference, if the color is, as you say, one that looks appropriate for that era.

Do it up as you please, unless you want more money when you sell, or more points in a show! (At the risk of stepping on a few toes, I will say, for the sake of Power Wagondom, please try to avoid purple, pink, mauve, fuscia, teal, pastels, etc......)
