When I built the truck I did have to shorten the wheelbase by moving the rear axle forward from 157 inches to a standard W-300 wheelbase of 131 inches and cutting the rear 26 inches of the frame off. This was done because the spring perches had to be moved up slightly to maintain the stance of the truck. In regards to fenders the original dually round fenders did not look right with the 20 inch rims and Michelins so I went with the later fender design. And yes the truck was converted from dual rear wheels to single.
