first thing I do on 6 volt vehicles is switch to 8 volt battery. starts just like a 12 volt then. usually no adjusmtent is needed to the VR but sometimes it is. the gauges dont care about the 8 volts. I have convertered a couple I have owned and many for customers when I worked in the vintage car biz. nothing but smiles with an 8 volt. on the jumping I have gott away with the 2 person method where the one guy stands ready to crank while the other hooks up the cables just long enough for the engine to be started the quickly removed. I did brun up a set of points leaving the cables hooked up to a 6 volt once and cranking away on a flooded engine. the momentary method has worked for me with no damage to points or fuel gauges.
