The problem with the pulse things used on all cars since about 1960 is that the systems use bimetal strips, that balance out the surges as heat. Our dodges are electromagnetic, with a wire finer than hair. Easy to burn out.
To tell them apart, the Runtz thing needs a separate ground. Dinky thing, postage stamp size. Standard Parts sells them.
