Not being an electronics wizard, it probably works fine. Some senders and gauges (not Dodge as far as I know) use a thermal make-and-break gizmo both in the gauge and in the fuel tank. Try your IH gizmo and see how it does when you move the float up and down by hand. I bet it will be just fine, and it will avoid having sensitive electronic parts that might get fried by voltage spikes. Simple is good.
