fuel gauge sender

Will a stock PW fuel gauge work on 12V negative ground? SInce it is only reading resistance, is there a way to make it work? After 25 years, it is time to know how much fuel I have in the tank. What have you guys with 12V trucks done? I have a 1949 B1, and I would like to keep the stock gauge. Also, what is the ohm range empty and full? Mine looked like 30 and 90, or so.
