The white stuff is really a grey color it is just mortar for the chinking of the logs. In the pioneer days they used mud to chink with with cut wood boards in between the mud for insulation, mine is mortar laid on metal lathe with foam insulation sprayed on the back side then more lathe with mortar on the finished inside. Cabin is very easy to heat and cool, very tight. When I first got to foam sprayed on the backside of the cabin it was winter and I had a ventless propane stove that looked just like a wood stove, looked good in cabin, anyway it was very late in the in the evening when the guy got done spraying the foam, left the heater on and when my wife and I came back the next morning to work on the cabin when we came inside it was like a rain forest in the cabin! The cabin is so tight and propane has so much moister in it that the ventless heater was putting out so much moister and it had no way of getting out of the cabin, no more ventless heaters in this puppy! Duane.
