I am restoring (2) Rife Hydraulic Rams circa 1904. All fasteners were ungraded, square head bolts and nuts. The only square head nuts/bolts I can find are Grade 2. The .500" thick cast iron pressure dome was retained on the lower section with (6) .625" x 5.0 " square head nuts and bolts.
My question; What grade would 1904 square head .625" dia nuts and bolts equal today. I would like to retain the original look with square head fasteners. But worry about using current grade 2 square head. The hydraulic shock in the dome is high, but have no idea the peak pressures generated.
